Court Refuses Arrest Warrant Against Samsung Heir

Samsung’s heir, Lee Jae-yong, escaped arrest after a Seoul court denied a request from prosecutors to detain him while they were investigating suspected accounting fraud. Lee, who goes through Jay Y. Lee in the West and is the vice president of Samsung Electronics, spent nearly a year in prison until February 2018 for his role in a separate scandal.

“Prosecutors appear to have obtained a considerable amount of evidence from their investigation, but they have not explained the validity of Lee’s detention,” said the Seoul Central District Court, as reported Nikkei. “Given the importance of the case, it must be determined whether the suspects are responsible and the degree (of their involvement) through sufficient trial and debate.”
