The Saskatchewan Health Authority is making its COVID-19 field hospitals a reality in Regina and Saskatoon.
SHA is opening temporary hospitals at Evraz Place in Regina and Merlis Belsher Place in Saskatoon, according to a press release released on Tuesday.
Together, the two hospitals will have room for 304 COVID-19 patients who require hospitalization but do not have a severe form of the disease.
This capacity is necessary, says SHA, due to the suspension of health services previously resumed in permanent hospitals and a possible second wave of coronavirus in the fall.
Currently, 19 active cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the province; To date, 13 people have died from the virus in Saskatchewan.
“The two hospitals must be ready to open within a few weeks of the predetermined trigger points,” according to SHA.
SHA staff first spoke in detail about the plans for field hospitals on April 9.
