Kerim Mrabti kicked his last ball for Birmingham City after the club confirmed on Wednesday that he was leaving.Wingman Mrabti, who was recruited in January 2019 for a free transfer during Garry Monk’s tenure, has only appeared 17 times this season in the midst of a series of battles with injuries.

Blues had a 12 month option in their favor in the Mrabti contract, but – as indicated by BirminghamLive earlier this month – this has not been invoked and Mrabti will be leaving officially when his contract expires at the end of this month.

With no future at St Andrew’s, the Blues have also confirmed that Mrabti will not be taken into account by Pep Clotet for the club’s nine league games.

A statement from the Blues confirming the release of the 26-year-old added: “Kerim is leaving the Blues with best wishes and good luck for the future. A popular character, he served the club well. ”

Mrabti scored twice this season, in a draw at Blackburn the day after Christmas and in a loss to Wigan on New Year’s Day.

He follows David Stockdale, Cheick Keita, Jacques Maghoma and Jonathan Grounds in Wast Hills, while Craig Gardner has officially announced his retirement from the game and Jefferson Montero has also not extended his loan to his championship rivals, Swansea City.

The Blues, however, have Jeremie Bela in form after not expecting him to return to the run-in before the revised schedule due to a coronavirus.
