- Chelsea still in limbo over Willian and Pedro’s availability for restart
- The two are still in contract extension talks with building transfer links
- Both players worried about injuries and can’t find a new club
- Chelsea have until June 23 to have Willian and Pedro sign at the peak
Chelsea are still unsure of striker Willian and Pedro’s availability for the Premier League restart next week as contract talks continue.
Manager Frank Lampard is still no wiser about whether the pair will sign contracts with the club after June 30, allowing them to finish the current season at Stamford Bridge.
The Telegraph said the two are open to the prospect of overtime, but progress has slowed down on what would happen if they were injured in the final games of the 2019-20 season.
Chelsea do not know if they will have Willian for the restart of the Premier League due to the contract
Pedro is also in talks on a short-term extension with outside club ties this summer
This leaves Lampard in a potentially difficult position, with the Blues boss unsure whether he can count on two of his most experienced players as they prepare for their return match against Aston Villa wrestlers on June 21.
The Brazilian and Spanish contracts end at the end of this season and have both attracted interest from other Premier League clubs and European outfits.
The main factor preventing him from signing an overtime is whether a long-term injury would affect their chances of finding a new club later this summer.
Discussions are underway as to whether Chelsea will include overtime clauses that would allow them to sign another short-term extension with the club if they sustained an injury that prevented them from continuing.

However, the club is rather reluctant to make this commitment.
Willian has caught the eye of Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, while Pedro is in talks with Roma and Valencia have also kept an eye on the former Barcelona winger.
Clubs have until June 23 to sign extension agreements with their players who are coming to the end of their contract.
If neither signs for the additional months, Lampard will turn to Christian Pulisic, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Mason Mount to fill the gaps.
