Castex is back in Paris in 2024 interministerial role that France emerges from lockdown


Jean Castex, the inter-ministerial delegate for Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, took over this role this week after his mission to study the completed scenarios.

As France went into lockdown to try and stop the spread of coronavirus, Castex was in April appointed by Prime Minister Édouard Philippe to examine how the country could ease the restrictions.

Castex has been working with the Ministry of Health for more than two months on the national strategy.

However, the country is now in its second phase of easing restrictions, Castex the mission is over and it can resume its former role.

Cafes and restaurants are open again, schools can operate in some regions and eastern countries planning to open its borders to travellers from the European Union on Monday (June 15).

In addition to being the Paris 2024 inter-ministerial delegate, Castex is Chairman of the Agency’s National Sports Committee (SNA).

The SNA was created in 2019 to govern the sport in France and oversee its high performance preparations for the 2024 Games.

Castex is Mayor of Prades, part of the Eastern Pyrenees department.

The 54-year-old was undersecretary general when Nicolas Sarkozy was French President, there was speculation in the French media that a reshuffle of the Government in the coming months to see him to give him a leading role and give up his job as in Paris 2024 interministerial delegate.
