In recent weeks, more Visa Application Centers (VACs) around the world have reopened to provide services to those who wish to come to Canada.ACCs allow individuals to submit their biometric data under the requirements set out by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Individuals provide their fingerprints, photos and pay fees as part of the biometric data collection process. Canada obtains biometric data to facilitate and secure travel within the country.

Since March, the VACs have been closed as part of global measures to contain the coronavirus.

IRCC continues to provide updates to those who are unable to submit their biometric data at this time.

He will not refuse the request of a person who is unable to provide his biometric data. IRCC will leave its applications open by providing them with automatic extensions to their biometric deadlines. Individuals do not have to provide their biometric data until VAC sites reopen and they do not need to contact IRCC to request an extension of their deadline.

Temporary foreign workers (TFWs) are exempt from providing their biometric data abroad if their local VAC is closed and they are called upon to work in Canada as truck drivers, or in the health or Agriculture. If they have not provided their biometric data in Canada before, exempt TFWs can do so when they arrive in Canada.

IRCC also indicated that it was considering further reforms to help individuals more easily complete the biometric process during the COVID-19 pandemic.
