Aston Villa is expected to release 14 players at the end of the month, including former captain James Chester, Andre Green and Callum O’Hare. The club has sent a document to the Premier League informing them of the players they plan to release at the end of their contract.

Chester and Green have extended their agreements until the end of the current campaign, allowing them to complete the loan periods with Stoke City and Charlton Athletic, respectively.

O’Hare, who helped Coventry City win the Ligue 1 title in the last term, was another name on the list that surprised fans. Some fans were hoping he would be in the running for the club next year if Villa were relegated to the championship.

Spanish striker Borja Baston will also leave after just six months in the club where he played 16 minutes in the first team.

Rushian Hepburn-Murphy, who made his debut for the club at 16 in the Premier League, was also released, as was Jake Doyle-Hayes.

Matija Sarkic, Jamie Searle, Isaiah Bazeley-Graham, Jack Birch, Colin Odutayo, Anton Hooper, Dimitri Sea and Ross McCormack are also on the list, although his agreement was paid for last year.

Here’s how supporters reacted to news on social media….

Rob Inett: “O’Hare is a very good prospect. He will be a leading player in a few years. We always let promising players go like Cahill and Albrighton. I consider O’Hare potentially with Grealish. Mark my words, he should stay, and when Grealish leaves, he could be our next “hero.” ”

Daniel Bignell: “There are some good young players on this list who would be perfect if we fell in the championship. Don’t lose the likes of O’Hare and Sarkic in particular. You have also heard good things about Odutayo. ”

James Badham: “(O’Hare) is 22 years old, the same age as Douglas Luiz and if he had been so good, he would have progressed more now! We must continue the approach of filling the U23 with very talented 16/17 year olds! ”

Adrian Williams: “A few years ago, I saw Paul Merson on Soccer on Saturday saying that he should be wary of Villa in a few years, because their young players are excellent. My question is … what happened and where are they? Do we have the rights of people in place to get young people through? ”

John Fenton: “Letting go of O’Hare is a big mistake in my opinion. He has so much potential. ”

Ross Morgan: “What a warrior James Chester was. Our defense would be in better shape with him. ”

Dan Oliver: “The departure of O’Hare is not surprising, considering the talent we have in our youth configuration with (Louie) Barry and (Jacob) Ramsey. “
