Speaking to TV magazine The Sun ahead of the 20th anniversary specials for the iconic show, Craig revealed that his boyfriend ran his way through dinner to impress his other half.

He told the publication that the last person he saw of the series he won was Nick, with the couple visiting him in Sydney (where he now lives) during their trips.

Speaking about the meeting, Craig said: “I knew Nick was living in Sydney, so I spent four or five hours with him on a couple of bottles of wine.

“Sometimes you can catch him when he’s a little normal, but because Laura was there, he was lying after lie after lie!

He explained: “You have to remember, when we were in this house, it was worse than prison! We had no phone calls, we had no interaction with the public, not even our family, no text messages, certainly not social media — it wasn’t even on the planet at the time – we had nothing to communicate with.

After winning the show, he immediately donated his prize of 70,000 euros to his friend Joanne Harris, who had Down syndrome, to pay for a heart and lung transplant.

Speaking about the lockdown situation, the DIY expert said: “The NHS as we know have been fantastic and many of his conversations have been on the phone with midwives.

“He didn’t go for his first scan just after 12 weeks which, of course, I wasn’t allowed to attend because of the regulations, which was fine.

“So it was a bit intimidating and nervous for her to go and do her first scan and get her blood test. Of course, I was waiting outside with Nelly and our little bulldog patiently in the park across the road.
