Luiz himself has been quoted as claiming he would be happy with a return to his former club Benfica, but he now looks set to stay after declaring he was happy to run for the Gunners for another year.
Edu discussed Luiz and fellow Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli during a conversation with his former Gunners team-mate Gilberto Silva for the Arsenal venue.
“We are happy with both. “David is more experienced and more used to the league,” he said.
“‘is a guy who can really help day-to-day on and off the field, like he did.
“I knew him well because I came with him to the national team when I was coordinator and it went very well.
“Where we help each other. You know it’s important to feel that support and be happy on a daily basis at the club. It’s an amazing club with fantastic principles. They must also be proud to be where they are; that helps too.
Edu then discussed Martinelli further.
“Martinelli has a great future ahead of him,” he said.
“‘is a Brazilian with very interesting prospects because it’s not easy to start like he did. We know not, don’t we, Gigi?
“The way he started to stand out isn’t easy, is it?”
