Alberta soap opera star Jason Thompson marks Daytime Emmy for his work on “Young and the Restless”


Alberta-born actor Jason Thompson named winner of the Daytime Emmy for Best Leading Actor in a Drama Series Friday Night for longtime soap opera work Young and restless.

Thompson, originally from St. Albert, Alberta, joined the cast of the hit TV series for the first time in 2016, playing as Billy Abbott.

“Playing Billy was fun and really invigorating,” Thompson told Global News in an interview in 2016. “It was a big challenge, which I really looked forward to.”

Young people and restless also won a Daytime Emmy award for the dramatic drama series on Friday evening.

According to his profile on the CBS website, Thompson has already been nominated several times for a Daytime Emmy for his work on General Hospital.

The actor, who is also known as a restaurateur in Edmonton, has previously appeared in a number of other television programs, including Castle, 90210 and Congratulated.

Thompson lives in Los Angeles with his wife Paloma, according to his profile on the CBS website.

According to Thompson, he was discovered by an agent while serving in an Earls restaurant in downtown Edmonton at the age of 18. At 21, he lived in Hollywood.

The 47th Daytime Emmy Awards is hosted remotely by Sharon Osbourne, Sheryl Underwood, Eve, Carrie Ann Inaba and Marie Osmond from The Talk.
