Chinese state media say eight children, drowned after they fell into a river and other, jumped in to help. The number of death is past of the city of Chongqing in south-western China. The children have been described as elementary school.
The state-run media said that the children went to play at the edge of the river on Sunday and the bodies were recovered on Monday morning. No other details were available.
Heavy rain was forecast for the city, but it was not clear if weather was a factor. The students were from the city of Mixins in the sprawling city of Chongqing.
