The NHL is output a statement
related that 15 players have been tested positive for COVID-19 after being reported to the training camp. More than 1 450 tests in total were administered to the 250+ players at the camp. These tests were all administered after the start of phase 2 of the initiative to return to the game, which started on 8 June.In addition, 11 more players have been tested positive for the coronavirus outside of the training camps of the NHL. All players who tested positive have been quarantined.
It is difficult to know exactly what to make of these test results. It is not quite clear for the moment how many of these players were asymptomatic at the time, and it is not clear if there was further spread to staff or families. Assuming the best, an infection rate of 6% would not threaten the restart of the season – especially if a part of these positive tests prove to be asymptomatic. The positive tests are inevitable, and a part of the return-to-play recognizes it.
