Video seems to show NYPD truck plowing crowd at protest

The 27-second video, which was posted on Twitter, shows an NYPD truck in front of a crowd throwing objects at the vehicle. There is a barricade in front of the truck. The truck then appears to enter the barricade, overturning the demonstrators.

Cries and cries are heard as a person is seen jumping over the truck. It is unknown if there were any injuries.

This incident further fuels the flames of negative interactions between the police and the people they swore to protect. Many of the protests that have erupted in major cities in the United States are the result of people’s anger boiling over the death of the unarmed black man George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis police.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said the incident was under investigation, but said the police may have had no other choice.

“I’m not going to blame the officers who were trying to deal with an absolutely impossible situation. The people who converged on this police car did the wrong thing at the start, and they created an untenable situation, “he said. “I wish the officers found a different approach, but let’s start at the beginning. The protesters in this video did the wrong thing to surround this police car, period. “

The mayor said on Saturday evening that he had spoken with community leaders and that there may be demonstrators who intentionally attempt to incite violence, including those who have come to New York from other places.

“The people who represent the communities of our city and the inhabitants of our city do not join the negative and violent demonstrations,” said de Blasio.

CNN contacted the NYPD, the Governor of New York, and the Attorney General’s office for comment. Earlier today, Governor Andrew Cuomo said he had ordered the state’s attorney general to independently review the events of Friday’s protests, including clashes with police in Brooklyn and others arrondissements.

CNN’s Christina Zdanowicz and Laura Ly contributed to this report.
