Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning: J.T. Miller’s choice depends on game outcome

Canucks general manager Jim Benning said Wednesday he understands that the outcome of the Vancouver top five round will determine whether the team’s first round pick will move to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Canucks traded conditional first round pick for Lightning last summer – along with third round pick and goaltender Marek Mazanec – in exchange for J.T. Meunierwith the pick transferred this year if the Canucks made the playoffs and the Lightning receiving the Vancouver 2021 first round pick if they didn’t.

According to the NHL return-to-play format announced Tuesday, the Canucks will face the Minnesota Wild to determine which team will advance to the 16 playoff teams.

In 69 games with the Canucks this season, Miller has scored a career high of 27 goals and 72 points.
