On a day when five of the state’s seven health districts had no new confirmed cases of coronavirus, the South Central Public Health District reported an additional 19 cases.
Twin Falls County appears to have taken over as Idaho’s COVID-19 hotspot, producing 10 of the 21 new cases on Saturday. Twin Falls County had 164 cases as of May 2 and has since grown to 216, an increase of 52 cases over the past week.
Idaho has 2,051 confirmed cases and 67 deaths across the state since March. The other new cases from Saturday were added in the counties of Blaine (4 new, 493 in total), Cassia (1 new, 15 in total), Jérôme (4 new, 61 in total) and Madison (2 new, 12 in total), according to an update on the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare website.
New cases in Madison County included a man in his 30s who had been in contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19, and a man in his 20s who contracted the virus through community transition. Neither had to be hospitalized, according to Eastern Idaho Public Health.
There are 181 “probable cases” statewide, an increase of three from Friday. Health and Welfare reports that 1,473 cases are “presumed cured”.
Hospitalizations: Health and Welfare reports that there were 207 hospitalizations due to the coronavirus, 87 intensive care admissions and 274 health care workers who were infected. The numbers of hospitals and health care are based on cases with completed contact surveys, not the total number of positives.
Test totals: At the end of the day on Saturday, Health and Welfare reported that 31,961 tests had been completed across the state. About 6.4% were positive for COVID-19.
