Thunder Bay Long-Term Care Home Reports COVID-19 Outbreak

THUNDER BAY – An outbreak of COVID-19 has been reported in a long-term care home in Thunder Bay after a staff member tested positive for the virus.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit and the St. Joseph’s Care Group (SJCG) confirmed the news on Saturday evening in a statement. A staff member from Hogarth River Manor, operated by SJCG, “recently” tested positive for COVID-19, organizations reported. No resident or other staff member has been identified as having symptoms, they said.

Provincial guidelines require reporting of an outbreak when one or more staff or residents are positive. The health unit and SJCG say they will work together to investigate and manage the epidemic.

The outbreak has been declared for the fourth floor of the Hogarth Riverview mansion. Residents on this floor are now isolated, the statement said.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
