CBS All Access brings back a few fan favorite characters for another brand new “Star Trek” series.

The streamer gave a serial order to “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” with Anson Mount as captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as number one and Ethan Peck as science officer Spock. The series will follow Pike, Spock and Number One in the decade before Captain Kirk was taken to the United States. Business as they explore new worlds around the galaxy.

The character trio was first introduced to the revamped universe of CBS “Star Trek” in season 2 of “Star Trek: Discovery”. The three received praise for their performance, with fans quickly calling for a spin-off. They also appeared in the first episode of season 2 of “Star Trek: Short Treks”.

“Fans fell in love with the portraits of Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck of these iconic characters when they were first featured on” Star Trek: Discovery “last season,” said Julie McNamara, vice -executive president and programming manager at CBS All Access. . “This new series will be a perfect addition to the franchise, bringing a whole new perspective and a series of adventures to” Star Trek. “”

The first in the series was written by Akiva Goldsman with the stories of Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet. Goldsman, Kurtzman and Lumet will be executive producers with Henry Alonso Myers, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth. Aaron Baiers, Akela Cooper and Davy Perez will be executive co-producers. The series will be produced by CBS Television Studios, Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment.

“It is a dream come true, literally,” said Goldsman. “I have imagined myself on the Enterprise deck since the early 1970s. I am honored to be part of this continuous journey with Alex, Henry and the good people of CBS. “

CBS has been betting heavily on “Star Trek” in recent years. Including “Strange New Worlds”, there are now five shows in the shared universe on All Access: “Star Trek: Discovery” (Season 3 starting later this year), “Star Trek: Picard” (Season 1 airing this year, already renewed for season 2), “Star Trek: Short Treks” and the animated series for adults “Star Trek: Lower Decks” (which will start later this year). Nickelodeon is also preparing a children’s animation series “Star Trek”. All Access announced last year that it was developing a series centered on the character of Michelle Yeoh in “Discovery”.

“When we said we heard the outpouring of fan love for Pike, Number One and Spock when they boarded” Star Trek: Discovery “last season we wanted it,” said Kurtzman . “These iconic characters have a deep story in the canon of” Star Trek “, but many of their stories remain to be told. With Akiva and Henry at the helm, the Enterprise, its crew and fans are ready for an extraordinary journey to new frontiers in the ‘Star Trek’ universe. “

It was announced in 2018 that Kurtzman had signed a five-year contract with CBS TV Studios to oversee the expansion of the Star Trek television universe. Last year, CBS announced the launch of a global “Star Trek” franchise group to manage new projects such as podcasts, new digital spaces, and live experiential events.
