Second overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Trubisky, 25, finished 28th overall QBR (39.4), tied for 27th in touchdown passes (17), 21st in passing yards ( 3138), 32nd in yards gained by attempted pass (6.1) and 28th in the traditional quarterback rating (83.0).
Trubisky will earn $ 4.423 million in 2020 and count $ 9.237 million on the salary cap.
The Bears, who went 8-8 and failed to make the playoffs last season, acquired quarterback Nick Foles in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars in March.
Bears chief executive Ryan Pace said last month that Trubisky and Foles will compete for the starting position in 2020.
“We have increased competition at a critical position and we have spoken to both players, and the way we view it is an open competition,” Pace said on April 3. “And we thank these two guys for adopting it. “
Trubisky underwent surgery in January to repair a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder and is expected to be medically cleared by next summer. He suffered a labrum tear and dislocated his non-throwing shoulder in week 4 against the Minnesota Vikings, but only missed one game.
The Bears traded their choice of 2020 fourth-round offset project to the Jaguars for Foles and, in doing so, inherited a contract that included approximately $ 21 million in guarantees. Foles, 31, then restructured the deal to allow him to cancel any of the past few years, depending on how his performance has improved.
In 2018, Matt Nagy’s first season as head coach, the Bears went 12 to 4 as Trubisky passed for 3,223 yards, 24 touchdowns and 12 interceptions and rushed for 421 yards and three touchdowns.
