Football site 90Min claimed that Leicester City won the race to sign Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer, but faced stiff competition from Manchester City, Everton and other European teams.
Ajer, 22, was Brendan Rodgers first recruit to Celtic in the summer of 2016 from Norwegian minnows FK Start – and the defender continued to shine for the Hoops, with 129 appearances and three Scottish Premiership titles .
The central defender’s agent told the Daily Record that Ajer will leave Celtic this summer, signing £ 500,000 (record) to take the next level. But a meeting with Rodgers may well be on the cards.
Indeed, Leicester would win the race despite the interest of City, Everton and Wolves, while AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund are also very interested. He has a contract with Celtic until the summer of 2022.
TBR perspective – Ajer expected to stay at Celtic for another season
Like Odsonne Edouard, Ajer is only 22 years old and with the chance to make history with Celtic, the defender should continue to grow and help Celtic reach 10 in a row.
Admittedly, Ajer is one of the best players in Celtic and is a regular at Neil Lennon. Giving him 40 to 50 more games next season will only help his development and make him even more ready for Premier League football.
Not only that, but Ajer can be part of the history of the club. One more season at Celtic is obvious.
