RCMP hears complaints about Nova Scotia Power scam

Lunenburg County RCMP said it was aware of at least two reports of someone posing as a Nova Scotia Power employee and calling residents to request gift card payment.

Police said the caller was telling people that their power meter needed to be changed and that payment was required.

The scammer requests that payment be made with a gift card.

According to the police, one person provided more than $ 1,000 in gift cards and then called the police while another was asked to provide funds, but hung up and called the police.

Constables remind people that calling or sending emails in search of money in gift cards or cryptocurrency is a scam.
