Ravel Morrison opens Manchester United career after Wayne Rooney comments

Ravel Morrison says it was “incredible” and “overwhelming” to read Wayne Rooney’s comments on his time at Manchester United.

In his chronicle for The Sunday Times, Rooney said, “I saw Paul Pogba pass, Jesse Lingard, all of these players and Ravel were better than any of them by a mile of country. Morrison, 27, won the FA Youth Cup with Pogba and Lingard in 2011 but was sold to West Ham United eight months later.

Rio Ferdinand and Gary Neville, both aware of Morrison’s rare potential and problems outside the field, offered to host him before joining West Ham in January 2012.

Ferdinand said last month that Morrison “could have become a £ 100 million player” before Rooney’s glowing remarks. The former United captain said that Morrison, now on loan to Sheffield United in Middlesbrough, “had problems with his lifestyle and surroundings, which was sad for him.”

“Obviously incredible comments,” Morrison told TalkSport. “Especially for the player he is, he is probably one of the best to come out of England, so these are high comments from a top player.

“It makes you a little angry that I could have gone a little further. I should have gone a little further. I still hope to go a little further. But for the likes of Pogba and Jesse; I think the two great players. I think we had a great team, [born] around the years 92 and 93, this period of our year.

“I knew I had abilities, but I didn’t realize it and I didn’t understand it … obviously, they are top players and I didn’t understand their thoughts at the time. I just went there and I love to play football. “

Morrison, born in Wythenshawe, said that football offers an escape from a difficult education and that he can block “negativity” every time he enters training. However, Morrison also used to not train at United, and Ferguson eventually came to the end of his tie.

“I wouldn’t say I struggled with the pressure because I didn’t really feel the pressure,” added Morrison. “Maybe some things in my life, when I was young, now I would sit there and no longer do things or follow a different path and stuff like that.

“Entering Manchester United was a pleasant environment for everyday, world class players, just nice. If I could come back to my life, there would be many things I would change.

“I grew up at United, I have been there for less than 9 years. I skipped training for a few days, and I woke up and I don’t know why I did it, but I skipped it. And it’s hard to get me out of the training ground now. ”
