Queen Brian May guitarist survives heart attack and is now ready to play

Queen guitarist Brian May revealed on Sunday evening that he had recently suffered what he described as an almost fatal heart attack, but said he was now on the mend and was ” ready to rock. “

On Instagram, May, 72, explained a series of fun and scary health issues he has faced recently, starting with a gardening accident.

“People find it fun,” said May during her 7½ minute fan conference. “I had an MRI – and yes, I had a tear in my gluteus maximus. “

But the torn muscle was just the start of his crazy little tour with the doctors.

“A week later, I’m still dying, I mean real agony. I wanted to jump at times, “said May. “I couldn’t believe the pain. “

An MRI found that he had a compressed sciatic nerve in the lower spine.

“And that’s why I had the feeling that someone was putting a screwdriver on my back all the time,” he said. “It was excruciating. “

Then one day, for about 40 minutes, he felt tightness in his chest and pain in his arms.

“In the midst of all the painful back saga, I had a little heart attack,” said May. “In short, my wonderful doctor drove me to the hospital himself. “

An angiogram revealed a massive blockage that could have been fatal, he said.

“They looked at me and said, ‘Brian, I’m sorry, this is a little more complicated than we thought,'” he said. “Nothing could tell me that I was about to be in real trouble, because I could have died from the blockages that were there. “

May received three stents to keep her arteries flowing and her heart beating.

He thanked his doctors and urged fans to take heart health seriously.

“We all have to really look at each other as we approach fall, and what appears to be a very healthy heart may not be, and I’ll have it checked if I were you” , did he declare.

“I am very grateful, I am incredibly grateful that I now have a life to lead again. I was actually very close to death because of this. “

He added, “But I’m fine. I’m here and I’m ready to rock. “
