Packages must be left up to 72 hours before opening them

Packages should be left up to 72 hours before opening to reduce the risk of infection, the researchers suggest.

A redirected website, which suggests ways to reduce the risk of getting a virus, said you should leave packages and deliveries up to 72 hours before opening them to reduce the risk of infection on surfaces.

The website has been shown to be effective in reducing transmissions of seasonal and swine flu infections and has been adapted in response to the coronavirus.

Researchers from the universities of Bath, Bristol and Southampton hope that redesigning the Germ Defense website will help change people’s behavior and reduce infections.

Other suggestions from researchers published on the site include regular disinfection of home surfaces and the non-sharing of items such as towels between household members.

Dr. Ben Ainsworth, of the Department of Psychology at the University of Bath, said, “We know that Covid-19 is captured in the same way as other viruses.

“Germ Defense provides advice on how you can protect yourself using the same methods that have worked for other viruses.

“It only takes about 10 minutes to go through the information – but it could help protect you from coronaviruses, while providing you with a lifetime of less colds and flu.”

“It can take a little bit of practice for you and your family to use the ideas on Germ Defense.

“But once you learn them, they will become habits that you will easily make and that will protect you from illness. “

A previous study of 20,000 people found that Germ Defense users were less likely to get the flu or other viruses, and if they got sick, their illnesses were shorter and milder on average.

The team behind Germ Defense works closely with Public Health England, as well as with international colleagues, and the website is being translated into more than 20 languages.

Their study published in BMJ last week argued that since most people with Covid-19 are treated at home, it is important to limit the amount of virus they come into contact with by reducing viral load.
