In a recent interview with CBS Sports’ State of Combat podcast, De La Hoya praised White’s determination to try to get the UFC back on track as quickly as possible. De La Hoya apparently tried to get past feuds in the form of water under the bridge.
“I congratulate and respect Dana,” said De La Hoya. “We had our differences. When I wanted to get involved in MMA, I made Chuck Liddell (against) Tito Ortiz. It was a huge success. I immersed my toes in the water and lived it. It was really wonderful. I love MMA.
“Dana went out and criticized and ridiculed me and all that. You know what? Dana does a phenomenal job defending her sport, developing her sport, and he does it big. He does it very well, man. I congratulate him. “
If all goes according to plan, the UFC will return after about a month and a half break on May 9, with UFC 249. The event will be the first of four that the promotion plans to hold in 15 days, with three others cards scheduled for May 13, May 16 and May 23.
The first three events are scheduled to take place at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. The location of the May 23 card has not been finalized.
