Gabby’s Country Cabaret, a beloved hot spot in Langley for 34 years, announced this week that it could not reopen.

The Fraser Highway nightclub shared the news in a sincere announcement, citing the uncertainty that COVID-19 has placed on the nightlife industry here in British Columbia. and all over the world.

“This decision is heartbreaking for the property, our staff, the groups, and we think of all of our customers and friends who have made Gabby’s what it is,” said owner Steve Gallagher of the closure.

“With the current global situation, unfortunately, the bar and live music industry is on hold indefinitely, and there does not seem to be any time in the near future for us to be able to reopen and return to Gabby in conditions close to normal conditions. “

Gabby’s was known to be a big draw for young people in the area, and the place offered a place to drink, dance and enjoy live music and DJs, focusing on country and the top 40 hits. The nightclub was also often used as a place for film and television production. Among his important recent roles was the “Whyte Worm” in the series Riverdale.

The nightclub made the headlines in late March when Fraser Health contacted Gabby’s Country Cabaret to inform them that a customer who had recently visited the site had tested positive for COVID-19. The club’s publications on social networks informing their guests of the possible exposure have since been deleted.

Here is Gallagher’s announcement to close in full:

“Today, it is with extreme sadness that we must announce the final closure of the Gabby’s Country Cabaret at its current location. We were one, if not LA, of BC’s oldest nightclubs, so this decision is heartbreaking for the property, our staff, groups, and we think of all of our customers and friends who have made Gabby what that it is.

With the current global situation, unfortunately, the bar and live music industry is on hold indefinitely, and there does not seem to be time in the near future for when we could reopen and return to Gabby under close conditions. normal conditions.

We have been fortunate to be at our current location on Fraser Highway in Langley for the past 34 years, to make memories with all of you: our customers, who made Gabby what it is and gave it the life she had. Lots of relationships started because of Gabby. People fell in love, met their new best friend, met old friends, partied with their parents, heard their favorite song for the first time, made plans for the future, and got to know some of the best times of their lives in one of our kind places. A place that didn’t take itself too seriously, but that had all the character that accompanies so many years of history.

We were so fortunate that our scene was honored by the immense talent of musicians and artists in the years that started a party like no one else could. We had some of the best local, and even world-class, talent to entertain on our stage. We even had the opportunity to shine on the big (and small) screen in many movies and TV shows.

Gabby’s has always been much more than this building; it’s the customers, the staff, the music and the atmosphere that make Gabby what it is. We hope that wherever we meet in the future, and we have hope for a new future, that you will follow us.

Thank you all for 34 years of celebration with Gabby’s Country Cabaret. “
