In a gesture that seems quite obvious from his announcement, Nicholas Cage will play eccentric zoo keeper Joe Exotic in a new television series, via Variety. Look, it had to happen.
As soon as Netflix has Tiger king The real crime documentary series has exploded in popularity, Hollywood has started to turn the almost incredibly bizarre story of the Joe Exotic bombshell, Carole Baskin, and their tiger-fueled rivalry into a scripted series.
And now, Cage himself – the most eccentric actor in Hollywood whose work has constantly crossed the gray zone between the good, the bad and simply bizarre – should play the role of the eccentric Tiger King himself- even. The currently unnamed show will also mark Cage’s first television role.
Like the Netflix series which starred Joe Exotic, the series starring Nicholas Cage is based on the film by Leif Reigstad Texas monthly “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild” article, although the Cage series is a traditional scripted performance of eight episodes, not a documentary.
The series is produced by Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios, Dan Lagana to serve as writer and showrunner, as well as executive producer alongside Paul Young (Lagana and Young chose the rights of the original article in June 2019 .). It is not yet known on which network or streaming service the show will start.
The new series is by no means the only one that wants to take advantage of the Tiger king fever: there is a Tiger king show that will star Kate McKinnon as Carole Baskin who has been in production for months (long before the release of Netflix’s own series), based on the Wondery podcast Joe Exotic. There is Ryan Murphy and Rob Lowe telling the story in the early stages of production. And ID is working on a real crime monitoring called Investigate the strange world of Joe Exotic who promises to deepen the dossier.
