Now you know “The Last Dance”, the 10-part documentary on the Chicago Bulls directed by Michael Jordan in 1997-1998.
Much has been done about the leadership style of Jordan, which, in part, won a prize.
Alabama coach Nick Saban can relate.
In a May 18 episode of the Social Distance series from 247Sports, previewed by BamaOnline, Saban explained how the success of his team was based on the same values as those on which Jordan built the Chicago championships. .
The ninth and tenth episodes of the documentary will air on Sunday on ESPN, while ESPN2 will air a censored version. The documentary can be streamed live on Hulu + Live and Sling.
“Everyone wants to be comfortable, but you have to get used to being uncomfortable if you really want to be successful and you’re really good,” said Saban, for 247 Sports. “I could really understand that. This is what we have always tried to get the players on our program to do. Some understand it, others don’t.
“Some people use it against us in recruiting sometimes because,” I’ve heard that you don’t have fun in Alabama. “Well, we’re having fun here. The structure we have is so that players don’t have too much fun. But at the same time, we are also trying to create a culture of responsibility where players have the best chance of developing the type of habits that will help them succeed in their lives, in their future. ”
Here’s Jordan’s take on victory and his position on leadership.
“I mean, winning at a price. And leadership comes at a price. So I took people away when they didn’t want to be shot. I challenged people when they don’t want to be challenged. And I deserved this right because my teammates came after me. They didn’t endure everything I endured.
“Once you join the team, you live at a certain level that I play in, and I was not going to take any less. Now, if that means I have to go out there and get into your (explanatory) a bit, then I did.
“You ask all of my teammates, the only thing about Michael Jordan is that he never asked me to do something he did not (explain). “
