This is the miraculous moment when a buried newborn baby living in India is saved by villagers who have spotted his foot poking the ground.

The boy’s rescuers heard muffled cries when they started digging the ground to build a house in the village of Sonoura in Siddharthnagar, in northern India, in Uttar Pradesh.

They rushed to the source of the moans and noticed a single dusty leg above the ground as they started a frantic race against time to dig the baby out of the ground.

Video footage shows a villager desperately trying to locate the baby’s arms before he pulls the child up and out of the ground, his little body suffocated by the dust.

The baby remains motionless for a few moments on the floor while one of his rescuers checks to see if the boy is breathing.

At this point, the baby miraculously begins to move the arms and legs.

Villagers quickly transported the boy to a nearby hospital where doctors carried out tests that revealed that he had swallowed mud that blocked his airways.

The medical staff treating the baby say he is in stable condition but remains in the hospital under surveillance.

It is not known why the baby was buried or how long he was thrown there.

A woman from the local village has since come forward to adopt the child.
