Matic signed for the Red Devils in a £ 40m contract shortly after Jose Mourinho was named boss, and found the Portuguese at Old Trafford.
The midfielder had been an important player for Chelsea, who won the title in the Serbian’s last season at Stamford Bridge.
Eyebrows were raised when Matic signed for a direct title rival.
Matic avoided discussing in detail why he left Chelsea for United, but hinted at possible behind-the-scenes issues that prompted his move.
“I was very happy at Chelsea, but I thought it was the right time to change clubs,” Matic told Football Beyond Borders.
“There were reasons that are hard to say for me now. I will never forget my time there, but I am a Manchester United player now. “
Matic is clearly a fan of Mourinho, having followed him to United, but explaining that playing under him is not always easy.
He added, “It depends. If you win, he’s the best guy ever. But if you lose, you hide from him on the training ground. But he’s an amazing coach. “
These days, Matic plays under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at United, but has equal admiration for the Norwegian.
“Ole is a great manager. I think he’s improved a lot since joining United, and he’s different now. I’m sure he has a great future here, and he’s going to win us trophies, “he said.
