YouTube star Corey La Barrie died at the age of 25 after being involved in a car accident with a drunk driver, a lawyer for the La Barrie family confirmed.

“Right now, I can tell you that the family is in absolute shock,” Michael Kraut, one of two lawyers for the La Barrie family, told CNN on Tuesday. “His family in Australia is on their way to attend to the funeral and mourning.”

The Los Angeles County medical coroners department told CNN the accident happened at the corner of Huston Street and Carpenter Avenue in North Hollywood at approximately 9:39 p.m. local time.

The Los Angeles Police Department has not confirmed the identity of the driver, but issued a separate press release regarding the arrest of 27-year-old Daniel Joseph Silva, “for murder” after a “fatal DUI traffic collision” At the same time and in the same place.

Kraut also identified Silva, whom he described as “the close friend” of La Barrie, as the driver. He called the incident “thoughtless” and said Silva should be “held fully accountable in the legal system for his actions”.

Silva, a popular tattoo artist in the television series “Ink Master”, was allegedly driving a 2020 McLaren 600LT at “high speed” when he lost control. Silva then fled the road and collided with a stop sign and a tree, police said.

He left the vehicle and tried to leave, but was arrested by passers-by who came to help, police said.

La Barrie’s brother Jarrad La Barrie and his mother Lissa Harrison (Burton) did not respond to CNN’s requests for comment. However, the two posted their loss on Instagram.

“My brother Corey died last night in a car accident with his drunk friend behind the wheel,” Jarrad La Barrie wrote in his post on Monday. “I don’t know how I guess I’m going to do this without you … life will never be the same without you R.I.P. “

“He was very drunk and got into a car with a drunk driver. The accident killed him instantly, “wrote Lissa Harrison (Burton). “It is so unreal and I am overcome with grief. I love you so much Corey. “

LAPD officials said that after the accident, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded and took the driver, Silva, and a passenger to the hospital, where the passenger, a 25-year-old man, was died.

Although police did not confirm the identity of the passenger in Silva’s car – they said they were waiting for relatives to be informed – LAPD spokesperson Tony Im told CNN that there had only been one accident there.

“We did not have several accidents on this scene,” said Im.

Silva is being held on $ 200,000 bail, according to Los Angeles County prison records.

A Silva representative, via “Ink Master,” did not resend CNN’s request for comment, and CNN was unable to determine whether he had a lawyer.
