Massachusetts reports 92 new coronavirus deaths on Sunday

Massachusetts public health officials on Sunday reported 92 deaths from the coronavirus, bringing the number of deaths to 5,797 across the state since the start of the pandemic.

Health officials have also confirmed 1,077 new cases of the virus, for a total of 86,010 in Massachusetts.

Data show that 460,826 coronavirus tests have been performed by state and commercial laboratories. About 3% of those currently ill are hospitalized – a measure that has continued to decline in recent weeks. There are 702 people in the ICU across the state.

A letter was signed by 250 religious leaders to Governor Charlie Baker to authorize the reopening of places of worship during the early stages of the reopening of Massachusetts amid the coronavirus pandemic. In addition, he asked a member of the clergy to be added to the State Reopening Advisory Council.

“The governor last week made an announcement about all four phases, but did not put the dates on them. Also, there was no information on what this means for 10 people or less [order for places of worship]”Said the president of the Western Massachusetts Islamic Society, Mohammed Dastigir. ” [Baker] takes very good steps and measures and has been proactive and I really appreciate it. That being said, the reality is this: if you look at the trends and look at what is going on in the rest of the world, you are looking at the cases that come back when the economies have opened up. The sad reality is that we are far from being [pandemic]. ”

The reopening in four phases will first allow a limited number of companies to resume operations with “severe restrictions” in place, followed by a second wave of industries reopening with restrictions and capacity limits. The third wave of industries will be allowed to reopen with public health boards. In the fourth phase, Massachusetts will attempt to return to a “new normal” after the development of a vaccine.
