Low-risk exposure for COVID-19 after a Walmart employee tested positive

THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is investigating the potential for transmission of COVID-19 after an employee at a local Walmart tested positive for the virus.

According to a statement released Friday by the health unit, public health officials learned that an employee of Memorial Avenue Walmart had tested positive for COVID-19.

The health unit determined customers in the store between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on April 23 and from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on April 26 could be at risk for COVID-19.

The risk is considered low, but anyone who may have been to Walmart during this time should monitor symptoms and if symptoms do occur, contact the Thunder Bay District Health Unit at 807-625-5900.

The public is reminded to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 by staying at home as much as possible, washing your hands, avoiding touching your face, covering coughs, cleaning and disinfecting surfaces commonly affected and practicing physical distancing.
