As new rumors about potential newcomers to Merseyside continue to surface, we have taken a look at the latest gossip to see what they could mean for the Reds.
And some big names and the best clubs are involved…
Thomas Meunier, defender of Paris Saint-Germain.
According to reports in France, the Reds have entered the race to sign the Belgian right-back this summer.
Le10Sport said Liverpool had registered an interest in Meunier with the player’s agent, his contract in Paris expiring this summer.
Premier League compatriot Tottenham Hotspur has also been associated with a move for the 28-year-old.
Liverpool already has arguably the most talented right back in world football with Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Reds are also fortunate to benefit from the quality of the Kirkby Academy, with Neco Williams being the last youth to be part of the first team.
Since Meunier wants regular football, a move to Anfield may seem somewhat strange with Alexander-Arnold’s first choice.
Klopp still likes to give young players a chance when possible, and Meunier’s signing could hamper Williams’ progress.
Adama Traore, Wolverhampton Wanderers winger.
A high profile figure in Barcelona has been reported to be “furious” at rumors of Liverpool’s interest in the Wolves forward.
The Reds have been tentatively linked to a decision for the Spanish under-21 international that cost Wolves £ 18 million two summers ago.
Spanish outing Don Balon (via taken offside) Barça club president Josep Bartomeu says he “pulls his hair out” at the thought of Traoré joining Liverpool.
Traoré left the Nou camp to join Aston Villa in 2015, before leaving to join Middlesbrough and later the Wolves.
It has been said in several quarters of the need for Liverpool to strengthen their front zones to provide support to the three powerful fronts of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
Although the rumors linking Traore have been fairly speculative so far, he is not the only attacker to be linked to a move to Anfield.
The likes of Kylian Mbappe and Jadon Sancho have both been tentatively linked to the Reds, and a winger appears to be the type of player Klopp could add to his team when the transfer window reopens.
Klopp praised Traoré earlier this season, describing him as “unplayable at times, it’s amazing”.
And Traore said in return that the Reds were “the best in Europe”.
Traore’s agent believes there may still be a “market” for his client this summer – but rumored charges may be difficult in today’s climate.
Nuno Mendes, left-back at Sporting Lisbon.
According to the Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Liverpool is preparing an offer for Mendes, but has to face competition for its signing of former enemies of Manchester United.
The report says it is unclear at this point how much Liverpool are ready to offer Sporting to sign the 18-year-old, but it appears that the left-back is an area the Reds want to strengthen.
Arsenal Bukayo Saka starlet has also been linked to the Reds, with the teenager hired in the Emirates until the summer of 2021.
Andy Robertson is the left-back of the Reds’ first choice, but if the Scottish skipper is not available, options for Klopp are somewhat scarce.
James Milner was deployed there in a disadvantaged position, but always played heroically in games like the second half of the 4-0 victory over Barcelona.
A backup of Robertson might be a viable option when reopening the transfer window, but it remains to be seen whether Mendes at 18 would settle for a full-fledged role.
