Liverpool give Timo Werner transfer a boost after claiming Bayern Munich legend

Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus said that his former club’s pursuit of Timo Werner was “finally over”.

Werner has been linked to a move to Munich, as well as Liverpool in recent months, the attacker having a £ 52 million release clause.

Liverpool’s admiration for Werner is well known – and it remains to be seen whether they will materialize their interest in the player.

Bayern were also credited with interest in the striker, who has scored 27 goals in 36 games in all competitions this season, including 25 in the Bundesliga.

Now Matthaus, who has made more than 400 appearances for Bayern himself, says that a move abroad has made Werner so tempted that a transfer to his former club is not going to happen.

“Werner has now decided to publicly abstain from playing at FC Bayern. I can understand the reaction, ”said Matthaus to Sky Sports Germany.

He added: “These round trips are detrimental to him and to his performance. Since extending the contract in Leipzig and being able to focus on him, he has shown exceptional form.

“Now he has said that a move abroad would appeal more to him than a move to Munich. I think the chapter Werner and Bavaria is finally over. “
