Andy Robertson insists that world-class Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold could become a midfielder at some point in his career.

English international Alexander-Arnold has arguably become the best right-back in the world since joining the Liverpool first team in 2016.

The 21-year-old has played 125 games with his youth club, helping Jurgen Klopp’s team win the Champions League last season and clinching a 25-point lead in the Premier League this quarter.

Alexander-Arnold has been approached for a future midfielder role due to his passing ability and Robertson insists he has the attributes to change his position.

However, Scottish hero Robertson doesn’t see why his Liverpool teammate would want to change – for the time being at least – given his success as a right-back.

“I think a lot of people have said he can play in the midfield,” said Robertson on the Peter Crouch podcast.

“I don’t want to talk to him too much because he likes to think he can get through to the midfield.

“Hendo [Jordan Henderson] and that gives him belts. His passage and his conscience, he can do it.

“If he wants to take this step, he will have to decide at some point. But with what he’s doing right now, the best in the world in his position, I don’t know why he would want to change. “

Robertson also revealed the toughest opponent he has faced in the Premier League this season.

“[Wolves star] Adama Traore for being fair has torn me apart this season, “he added.

“It is ridiculous. Without a doubt (it is the fastest). I think he could give most defenders in the Prmeier League a 15-yard start and he would always win the race.

“He and Big Virg had a great run, but Virg has big long legs. “
