The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit and the Maple View Lodge in Athens are working together to manage a COVID-19 outbreak.
A staff member and a resident tested positive for COVID-19. Infection control measures under the Long-Term Care Homes Act have been put in place to manage the epidemic and are being monitored by the Health Unit.
The resident was isolated in his bedroom and all infection management protocols are in place to prevent its spread, or any other infection to others.
The staff member is self-insulating at home and follows the direction of public health and ministry requirements.
As part of the provincial testing of all residents and staff in long-term care homes, the United Counties Community Paramedic Program tested all residents of the home and more than half of the staff during the last end of week. This test found the resident and the staff member positive. The rest of the staff will also be tested.
“We are working closely with our local public health unit and our medical director to ensure that every effort is made to protect our residents and our staff,” said Tracy Jordan, administrator of Maple View Lodge. “We have followed and continue to follow all public and provincial health directives to protect our residents and staff. The health and safety of our residents and staff is our top priority. ”
“The outbreaks in LGL’s long-term care homes and retirement homes remind us that we must all follow the recommended measures to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 in the community;” said Dr. Paula Stewart, medical officer of health, “This includes staying at home as much as possible, keeping a distance of 2 m / 6 feet from other people. By working together, we can protect the most vulnerable among us! “
