More than 250,000 people have contracted coronavirus in the UK, according to the latest figures.

Data published by the NHS shows that 1,078 people have been diagnosed with the virus in Lincolnshire – which places the area in the middle of the UK regional chart for numbers, but near the bottom for the rate of infections per 100,000.

The number of deaths in the county has now risen to 133, but the spread of the infection appears to be slowing after a number of days when no deaths have been reported.

It could also be due to a delay in reporting statistics.

Some 259,559 people in the UK tested positive for Covid-19, an increase of 2,409 from the previous 24 hours.

Kent remains at the top of the regional classification with 4,764 cases, followed by Lancashire with 3,506, Birmingham with 3,402 and Hampshire with 3,276 cases.

Official figures divide London into its different areas – although it is comfortably the most affected area in England.
