Scott Pasmore, host of CNN KTVK affiliate, shot the video at the Backwater Jacks Bar & Grill in Osage Beach on Saturday.

The rally violates social distancing measures to limit the spread of Covid-19. As part of the Missouri reopening plan announced earlier this month, state officials said restaurants can offer food services but must respect social distance and other public health precautionary measures .

Jodi Akins of Blue Springs told CNN in a message that she visited the bar with four friends for a pool party on Saturday.

“When we went up, my first words were‘ oh my God ’, it was definitely intense! Social distance was nonexistent. However, everyone was having fun. It was a very carefree environment but security was heavy !! She wrote to CNN.

She said the bar had taken some safety precautions.

“They checked all of our time and had thousands of little bottles of hand sanitizer !! They did a good job with what they had to work with !! ” she wrote.

The bar announced on Facebook that it was the launch of a summer party called “Zero Ducks Given Pool Party”. He announced several DJs and bands performing throughout the event.

“The place worked with government officials and management teams and followed them. He will follow the guidelines for social distancing. Additional precautions and safety measures will be taken to provide you with a safe environment for you to enjoy the event, “said the bar.

The bar said it would operate at reduced capacity, that participants would constantly clean and disinfect the bathrooms, and that there would be a paramedic for the duration of the event.

The coronavirus is not likely to spread through water, says the CDC, but it does spread through people nearby. Staying at least 6 feet from others is especially important in swimming pools or beaches because masks are not practical in the water.

For example, several people who attended a high school swim party in neighboring Arkansas have contracted Covid-19, Governor Asa Hutchinson said on Saturday.

Strong participation was expected

Lake of the Ozarks expected a big turnout this weekend after starting the season late due to the pandemic, according to CNN affiliate KTVI.

“It’s supposed to be one of the biggest Memorial Day weekends we’ve seen at the lake here in years,” said Bill Morgan, director of the Robins Resort at Lake of the Ozarks, earlier this week.

Adam Kirk lives in Osage Beach, Missouri, and shot a time-lapse drone video that shows the amount of boat traffic on Lake of the Ozarks at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

“It definitely looks more (traffic) than last year,” he said. “It seems like everyone has the same idea, come to the lake to enjoy the summer, because we can get away at the same time. “

According to state data, about 11,800 people in Missouri tested positive for the coronavirus and about 680 died from Covid-19 infection.

Ed Yong, a writer at The Atlantic, warned that crowded pools may not represent the attitude of the American public toward social distancing.

“It is much more convincing to show someone arriving in a public space than to show me, for example, sitting at home and following directions,” he said. “Yet the latter probably better reflects what most Americans do.”

More than a third of Americans are concerned that their respective states will reopen too quickly, according to a recent survey by the Pew Research Center.

CNN’s Fenly Foxen contributed to this report.
