UFC middleweight contender Kelvin Gastelum had considerable success against title holder of 185-pound title Israel Adesanya when they entered the war in UFC 236 co-main event about a year ago, and think that a few minor adjustments will produce a different result the second time.
Before Gastelum can begin planning for another crack in the middleweight crown, he must first defeat another top competitor when he returns to the UFC in July. Maybe Jack Hermansson is the right person because “The Joker” is currently stuck overseas as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
“I’m going to do another run again,” Gastelum told MMA Fighting. “I like being able to fight anyone in the top five. In my opinion, a fight with Jack Hermansson would make sense. We both suffer losses. He is in the top five. A victory for each of us would take us where we need to go. We both have to go up the division, up to Adesanya. I think he’s the one who makes sense, but you never know what matchmakers are thinking. ”
Gastelum, still only 28 years old, is rehabilitating a torn LCL suffered in January and will not be ready to return until this summer. This gave the former “Ultimate Fighter” an opportunity to reflect on his recent loss to Darren Till, who spoke at the main co-event of UFC 244 last November.
Regarding the middleweight ranking (see them here), Gastelum occupies a place behind Hermansson at number 7. At this stage, a victory over “The Joker” may not be enough to bring him back to the promised land, because both Till (No. 5) and Jared Cannonier (No. 3) rest comfortably in front of him.
