The host of Good Morning Britain, who turns 53 today, unfortunately cannot be with his other half who has been in intensive care since March after contracting the bug.

Monday’s edition of GMB co-host and boyfriend Kate Ben Shephard – who replaces Piers Morgan after the presenter revealed he was showing signs of coronavirus – yelled at Kate on the air as he told her sent his birthday wishes.
He said, “I mean happy birthday to Kate, who will be 40 to 13 years old today. “
Susanna Reid, who hosts with Ben, added, “She doesn’t look a day over 25 years old. “
Ben joked, “No, after a lot of makeup. “
But he went on more somberly: “She is with her family and everything crosses, obviously, because Derek is still seriously ill but we just want to say happy birthday, Kate, but you can celebrate today.
“I’m sure Darcey and Billy have a cake or something, but we send lots and lots of love. “
Susanna added, “Yes, great love for you and your family, of course. “
Kate, who has been married to Derek since 2004, has also received a number of kind messages online as fans rally behind her support for the show as she goes through a difficult and uncertain period.
A supporter offered on Twitter: “@kategarraway happy birthday kate sends you love and prayers to derek and the xx family. “
A second addition: “Happy birthday Kate – the greatest gift you can have right now is that Derek has gone home and the kids are safe.” There’s a lot of love for you here Kate, and we’re all with you X. ”
