The 29-year-old reality star was only ten when his mother committed suicide.
In the reality show for Channel 4 Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, Joey spoke about his beginnings and his difficulties adjusting to the world after the loss of his mother.
The former TOWIE star was interviewed by host of the show Ant Middleton about why he thinks he has what it takes to succeed in the show’s difficult training conditions when he gave an emotional glimpse of his previous life.
In the scenes aired Monday night, Joey said, “I think I’m tough inside. Growing up was not easy. “
When asked why he considered himself harsh, Joey revealed his tragic childhood.
He said, “I had to deal with a lot of shit. My mother committed suicide when I was 10, which was difficult.
“It hardened me a bit. I can not explain it. It made me harder inside. “
Joey then revealed that until recently it was difficult for him to use the word “mom” only because of the tragedy.
He said, “I only started talking about it openly, saying the word mom three or four years ago. “
He also alluded to other ways in which his mother’s suicide made him addicted, saying, “I know my mother loved me. But it gave me confidence issues. One day she was there the day she left. “
