Japanese graphics: Animal Crossing overtakes Smash Ultimate to become Switch’s best-selling game

Figures for Japanese Famitsu maps are now available from April 20-26, revealing that Animal Crossing: New Horizons broke another record – and this one is a biggie.

The game sold 283,913 copies in Japan last week, bringing its total lifetime sales in the region to 3.89 million. This means that in terms of physical sales in Japan (Nintendo does not regularly provide its digital sales data, unfortunately), New Horizons is now the best-selling game on Nintendo Switch, surpassing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate which currently stands at around 3.66 million physical copies sold.

Not surprisingly, Animal Crossing also stayed at number one this week, comfortably before the new version, Trials of Mana.

Sales of Nintendo Switch hardware also edged up this week, with higher inventory levels hitting shelves than in recent weeks where distribution had been severely affected. Here are the numbers for this week, followed by lifetime sales in parentheses:
