How to make a government approved seamless fabric face mask

Cloth face covers can help stop the spread of the coronavirus and the government recommends wearing them especially when it is difficult to maintain social distancing.

Transport for London stated that face masks should be worn on all of their public transportation services.

You can make your own cloth facial mask out of an old t-shirt by watching the video above and following these steps:

  1. Draw a line across the width of the t-shirt 20 cm from the bottom hem. Cut along this line so that you end up with a strip of snood-like material
  2. Draw a rectangular shape that starts 2 cm from the top and bottom edges of the strip, and 15 cm from one of the outer edges, then cut it out (you can throw this material away)
  3. Finally to create the links, cut the 2 cm thick strips. Unfold the material and you will have a cloth face mask to cover your nose and mouth, and two pairs of ties to tie around the head and neck.

It is always important to practice good hygiene and wash your hands regularly, especially before putting on and taking off your mask.

You should also wash your cloth masks regularly – they can be washed with your other laundry, using your normal detergent.
