Greece could be the first ‘airlift’ holiday link

The Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) has poured cold water on the concept of “airlift”, warning that the government must think before talking about plans to return from trips this summer.

Noel Josephides, director of Aito, which represents more than 100 different specialists, said: “[Are the air bridges] a well-considered and feasible option? Our fingers have been badly burned by Mr. Shapps’ previous spontaneous comments, and this government unfortunately has a reputation for making big statements only to retract or change them significantly a day later.

“We very much hope that the holidays can start from the UK to Europe in July or August this year, but there are a lot of hoops to cross in the short interim period.

He said there were positive signs coming from the continent, where countries like France, Italy and Greece have revealed details of their reopening, but the United Kingdom has not yet followed suit with such plans.
