Gorillaz & Skepta pay tribute to Tony Allen on “How far? “

The music industry faced yet another tragic death this week after the death of legendary Afropop drummer Tony Allen was announced. Allen was revolutionary in helping pioneer Afrobeats sound, although his musical CV has spread to other genres. Allen and Gorillaz ‘Damon Albarn were also part of the supergroup The Good, the Bad and the Queen, which mixed with rock, reggae and dub.

In tribute to Allen, Gorillaz released their new single, “How Far? Which stars Tony Allen and Skepta. The song was recorded recently, before the global lock. “The song was written and recorded with Skepta in London just before the lock-up and is immediately shared in tribute to the spirit of a great man, Tony Allen,” he said in a press release.

Allen died this week after suffering a heart attack. He worked closely with Fela Kuti who said that “without Tony Allen there would be no Afrobeat”.

Check out the trail below. RIP Tony Allen.

Quotable Lyrics
More money, more problems and more women
Every day someone dies, but mothers give birth to more babies
The earth turns, the world goes crazy
You must have a suit for baptism
A suit for the wedding and a suit for the trial
Probably wear the same costume at the funeral
I try to see the bigger picture, the man is bigger than the portrait
