Global coronavirus cases exceed 3.5 million, although rate slows


SYDNEY – Global coronavirus cases surpassed 3.5 million on Monday, with nearly 250,000 dead, although the death rate and new cases have slowed from peaks reached last month, according to a Reuters report.

North America and European countries accounted for most of the new cases reported in the past few days, but the number was increasing from smaller bases in Latin America, Africa and Russia.

Globally, there have been 84,004 new cases in the past 24 hours, according to a Reuters count based on official government data, bringing the total number of cases to just over 3.5 million. (Report by Jane Wardell; edited by Himani Sarkar)
