After postponing its opening date twice due to COVID-19, Kelowna FreshCo will open its doors Thursday morning at the Dilworth Center.
Owned by local franchisee Greg Frederick, the grocery store will provide a safe space for people to shop with many safety protocols in place in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are really excited, now is the time to go out and relieve some of the pressure from some of the other companies,” said Frederick. “We have proudly hired 141 employees in the region here. “
To ensure the safety of employees and customers, staff have placed distance markers outside the store, there is a temporary entry and exit area, there is a limit to the number of people allowed in the store at the same time, all the carts will be disinfected throughout the day, there is a disinfection station for customers, directional arrows in the aisles and footprints near the cash desks indicate programming control.
In addition, a shopping hour reserved for seniors will take place every day from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. and the staff will wash their hands every 15 minutes.
“I think customers will be very satisfied when they walk into the store to see how bright and clean it is and they will feel safe and comfortable with their purchases and prices. We are very competitively priced, “says Frederick.
Kelowna’s specialty bakery has also partnered with FreshCo to provide locally produced bread and to give back to the community, FreshCo Kelowna has partnered with Central Okanagan Food Bank.
“We partnered with them on perishables every day to support local farmers and we actually present them with a check for $ 2,500,” said Frederick.
Customers can also support the food bank by purchasing ready-made baskets designed specifically for the needs of the food bank.
FreshCo Kelowna is located off Highway 97 and Leckie in the Dilworth Center at 2339 Highway 97 # 500.
