France says relations with Iran are more difficult after citizen’s conviction

PARIS – French Foreign Minister said on Tuesday that relations with Iran have become more difficult after Tehran sentenced a Franco-Iranian academic to prison in what he called a political decision.

“This conviction was not based on any serious element and was motivated by political reasons. We therefore firmly say to the Iranian authorities to release Fariba Adelkhah without delay, ”said Jean-Yves Le Drian on France Inter radio.

“This decision makes our relations with the Iranian authorities much more difficult. “

Adelkhah, who has been in prison for a year, was sentenced this month to six years in prison on grounds of national security.
