Former WWE pro Shad Gaspard missing after being caught in a backwater off Venice Beach

Former World Wrestling Entertainment pro Shad Gaspard was reported missing on Tuesday after being swept away in southern California last weekend while swimming with his young son.

Gaspard’s 10-year-old son Aryeh was rescued and several other swimmers safely emerged from the water after being caught in a tear on Sunday afternoon at Venice Beach in Los Angeles.

“The last time the lifeguard saw him, a wave crashed over Mr. Shad Gaspard and he was swept away,” Los Angeles police said in a statement on Monday.

Gaspard, 39, was about 50 meters from shore when he was last seen, police said.

His wife Siliana Gaspard released a statement on Tuesday thanking authorities and fans.

“We would like to express our gratitude to the first responders who saved Aryeh and to the rescuers, coast guards, divers, firefighters and the police for their continued efforts to help locate our beloved Shad,” the statement said.

The statement added, “Shad is a fighter, a warrior and a magical soul. We hope and pray for his safe return. As a family, we thank you all for your concern and best wishes. Please continue to send your positivity and prayers to our beloved Shad. “

Gaspard has grown in importance as a half of the Cryme Time team group with his partner, JTG, in WWE.

After retiring from WWE in 2010, Gaspard had small television and film roles, including Kevin Hart’s 2015 comedy “Get Hard”.
