Former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf arrested for home battery

Former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf was arrested on charges of domestic battery in Palm Springs, California. TMZ Sports reported it for the first time. Leaf was arrested Friday afternoon.

The details of the incident itself are unclear. All that is currently known, according to information available on the website of the Riverdale County Sheriff’s Department, is that Leaf was reserved for one charge and his bail was set at $ 5,000.

The former No. 2 pick of the San Diego Chargers lasted only three seasons in the NFL after being drafted behind Peyton Manning in 1998. After leaving the league, where he only threw 14 touchdown passes and 36 interceptions, dropping from 4 to 17 during this period, he spiraled into what he described as “a series of eight-year-old opioid abuse that put my life to sleep.”

This dark period of his life included an arrest in 2009 for drug trafficking and burglary in Texas, and a sentence of two years in prison after his arrest in 2012 for breaking into a house in Montana, stealing prescription drugs and violated his probation in Texas.

Leaf has since returned to sobriety and has been an ambassador for a recovery community. In 2019 ESPN hired the former Washington State quarterback as a university football analyst.
